The music for this dance was written about 6 months after the choreography was completed. Whilst creating the dance, I used rhythmic syllables (similar to scat singing in jazz) in place of music. When it came time for the recording, it was simply a matter of notating my verbal "music" in proper music notation. My son, Adam, a composer, notated the five tracks required, producing a musical score for each of the tracks. The percussionist, Dave "Scooby" Beck, played the five tracks (with the help of Adam in the clapping track), and Adam did the mix. |
