DAYS OF REPENTANCE
These are the days of repentance,
Soul-searching versus stocktaking.
In our hearts a fire of love did we kindle,
- or was it, maybe, conditional?

What has happened, half a century on?
Did we shed our cloak of arrogance,
or kick out on a full belly?
Heavy clouds,
With question marks:
What will the sunrise bring?
And in the heart's most secret space ,
A wish is hiding,

These are the days of penitence:
Ancestral ways or a new land?
Did we safeguard the spirit
